The Palace By Jean Dunand

Palace By Jean Dunand The Palace By Jean Dunand

At the heart of the Jean Dunand Palace is a flying tourbillon; on either side, two oval-shaped tracks are reminiscent of the legendary Milwaukee Mile racing circuit. The left track indicating GMT makes two passes: when the disc reaches the end, it flies back to the top and the arrow rotates 180 degrees to chart the other scale. On the right, a 72 hour power reserve indicator mirrors the GMT.

Recalling Charlie Chaplin’s classic film, Modern Times, visible bridges and wheels are visual clues to the Industrial Revolution. A winding mechanism communicates its power to the barrel via a tiny chain with minuscule tensioner, designed to evoke the chain of vintage motorcycles. Providing structure to the movement are rigid plates suggesting the reinforcement of a cast-iron structure supported by ten tiny pillars. The movement is larger than most complete watches, so the case is a generous 48mm by 49mm providing ample spaciousness. [via hodinkee]

Cartier Caliber Collection 2010

Cartier Caliber Collection 2010 Cartier Caliber Collection 2010

The new Cartier Caliber Collection features the first self-winding mechanical movement crafted entirely by Cartier: the calibre 1904 MC. Consider this a move forward that testifies to the priority Cartier gives to developing its own movements, based on research. Striking a nice balance between power and finesse, the Calibre de Cartier watch is exceptionally comfortable to wear. The bezel that embellishes the case plays on contrasts: polished on the exterior, it becomes increasingly dynamic as it approaches the case.

A 28 degree free-fall towards the dial culminates in a fluted ring marked with 120 notches. The dial offers a virile reinterpretation of both the Cartier watchmaking codes and Roman numerals. A transparent sapphire crystal case back reveals the calibre 1904 MC. The Calibre de Cartier arrives in April, starting at $6500. [via acquire]

The MVT01 D01 42 By 4N The MVT01/D01/42 By 4N

A home run where design is concerned, the MVT01/D01/42 model is the first watch released by 4N. Limited to just 16 pieces, the watch is characterized by a manufacturer movement, with a manual winding mechanism and a 12-hour digital display. The concept of the timepiece is based on a configuration of discs rotating in a discontinuous mode.

The watch features three discs (made of aluminum or titanium alloy) with different numbers engraved on them. The discs rotate to present the appropriate time in four digits. The mechanism uses a constant force jump system which guarantees minimum energy consumption, regardless of the winding tension. 4N offers the MVT01/D01/42 in 18K white gold and platinum versions; the dial is covered by a sapphire glass crystal, and the band will be offered in a range of materials. L.U.C Engine One Tourbillon By Chopard L.U.C Engine One Tourbillon By Chopard

To celebrate Chopard’s 150th anniversary, the Geneva-based company has debuted the stunning L.U.C Engine One Tourbillon. Tapping into the watchmaker’s passion for motor sports, this model houses a proprietary mechanical hand-wound tourbillon movement, L.U.C Calibre 1TRM. Similar to a car engine, this movement is mounted on silent blocks, which absorbs shocks, and held by three lever arms inserted into the case middle.

The dial is also inspired by the world of autos with a theme of transparency. The numerals characteristic of the L.U.C collection and the hour-markers are engraved and black-tinted beneath the glare-resistant sapphire crystal. The hand-sewn black alligator leather strap setting the perfect finishing touch to this model is enhanced by four reinforced inserts evoking the seats of classic racing cars. The L.U.C Engine One Tourbillon in titanium is produced in a limited series of 150 – in honor of Chopard’s 150th anniversary. [via acquire]

Rebellion Predator Watch

Rebellion Predator Watch Rebellion Predator Watch

The fiercely named Predator, Rebellion’s first watch clothed in a round case, is the result of a collaboration with award-winning designer Eric Giroud. Many characteristics of the Predator, both technical and aesthetic, are inspired directly from racing cars – like the brake disks and the pedals. There is the five-layered dial, the base of which is in a honeycomb that ensures rigidity while maximizing lightness. Then we switch over to the chronograph counters, which are connected to the dial by push rod shaped bridges decorated with a central ruby.

The bezel is attached by 8 distinctive screws with heads in the brand’s logo and the back by 6 torx screws, reinforcing the racing spirit of the watch. Another exclusivity of this model is the casing, which is constructed in a complex sandwich of superimposed layers allowing considerable personalization according to your taste. The Predator is available in several case materials: red, gold and steel. The finely-crafted timepiece is also available in a time-only version with three hands and date, as well as a mono-pusher chronograph. [via the awesomer]
