Wooden Supercar Makes a Statement in Style

A first peek at  Splinter the Wooden Supercar and we thought this was a wooden replica of a Lamborghini. But there’s more to it. This high end sports car is the graduation project of Joe Harmon – a North Carolina State University student. Crafted entirely out of wood, it’s expected to weigh a good 2500 lbs and should roar at nothing less than 600 hp from its twin supercharged, 4.6litre V8 engine. Though we don’t know how rain would affect it, it sure looks a lot like a collector’s item that many would like to get their hands on. We have our fingers crossed for the guy to put the pieces together, but we’re a bit skeptical on how practical it is or how expensive. Anyone in Dubai for one of these?

Those wicked German tuners from Edo Competition came out with what they think it’s the fastest Lamborghini ever. Based on a Murciélago LP 640 that got an airbrushed black-matte design from Audigier, some engine modifications and better exhaust, the limited edition Lamborghini LP 710 tops at 224 mph (360kph). Only five of these will be built – custom made of course, so you can imagine the price for such an exquisite model is out of reach even for the wealthiest of us… [via WCF]

Usually, parts for vehicles are first tested on machines used in motor sports. Think of the race cars as the guinea pigs. Reiter Engineering is a company that competes in various motor sports circuits around the world and they have just unveiled a beast of a machine. The Murcielago R-GT race car is a street legal race car with modifications that are usually only found in track vehicles. A carbon fiber front spoiler and rear wing, OZ racing wheels, suspension components and the essential upgraded breaks are some of the touches that could set your Murcielago (if you are lucky) from the rest of the bats on the road. Overkill you say? Maybe to some, but get behind the wheel and you most likely will say something is missing and that something would be in your garage.  [via autoblog]

The term supercar is loosely thrown around these days at vehicles that sometimes do not deserve it. Lucky for us, this is not one of those undeserving cars. Audi has decided to raid the parts bin of the Lamborghini factory and has added a new wrinkle to the already drop dead gorgeous R8. By adding the Lamborghini Gallardo’s 5.2L V10 which is rated at 525 horsepower and 390.91 lb-ft of torque, Audi is basically giving you a street legal version of the R8LMS. With enough bulls in the trunk to send you on a  0-60 sprint in 3.9 seconds, the R8 V10 now also inches closer to the 200 mph mark with a top speed of 196 mph. While no release date has been given for the US, the R8 V10 will be released in January in Germany with a starting price of about $180,000.  [via autoblog]

Revealed a few days ago at the LA Auto Show, the amazing Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder already managed to get the lion’s share of press attention. The stripped version of the Gallardo is powered by a 5.2 liter V10 engine that outputs 560 hp and 540 Nm of torque, has an E-Gear automatic transmission and promises to change gears 40% faster toward a top speed of 324 km/h. With a top notch design that involves sexy curves and a beautiful roof (which by the way only takes 20 seconds to retract), the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder looks like a flawless car. Pop quiz hotshot. How much bike do you think you can get for the price of a car? If you said 20,000 should get you the top-of-the-line, you were wrong. For the price of a Lamborghini Gallardo, plus or minus a few options, this sweet $230,000 superbike definitely delivers the goods. What does that hefty price tag get you? How about a hand-built titanium frame, a supercharged billet aluminum engine, carbon fiber and aerospace aluminum. Throw in there some old school touches such as hand-painted pinstriping and metal surfaces shined brightly, and you have yourself one the baddest machines on the road today.  [From $230,000 at Ecosse]

Paris Motor Show: the Lamborghini Estoque Concept

Thursday, October 2, 2008 12:29PM - By

Any Lamborghini news is good news to us.  Lambo has revealed their latest concept at the Paris Motor Show, the Lamborghini Estoque Concept.  This beauty sits at just over 4 feet high, giving it one hell of a low profile.  The Estoque will likely run with a range of optional engines, from the V10 of the Gallardo to a turbocharged V8 and even a V8 hybrid.  While many of the details remain foggy, one thing is certain- that’s one sexy design if you ask us…  [via autoblog]
