I went through quite a process deciding whether or not this Harrington jacket was worth the cost. Check out the close-up shot on the way through to see what I did–a beautiful lining and perfectly-finished interior, clearly handmade (in Britain), with texture and drape and contrast. I think I’m in love. This jacket was inspired by an E. Tautz archive piece, made for Colonel Chuck Yeager, who was the first person to break the sound barrier in an aircraft. Treat it well and it’ll last you. [$1,440 at oki-ni]

The Harmon Parka at Oak is available right now for just under $500, perfect for anyone who wants to get a head start on winter. This parka, with Harmon’s notable “artisanal” dyeing process and a lot of decorative additions on the draped front, is a surefire way to get some compliments on a winter piece. Keep in mind that this has a loose fit and won’t look like a slim cut against your frame. [$486 at oak]

For those concerned with the associations created by particular garments, casual jackets can be a nightmare. Corduroy is for professors, tweed for grandparents and leather for wannabe greaseballs. A Harrington jacket screams mod (or rebel lacking a cause), denim is the eighties and suede looks like it should have cowboy tassels. And even the most sartorially ignorant know that suit jackets with jeans don’t work.

You can’t have enough classic jackets, and that includes moto ones. The Victim Rider is molded from nubuck leather, and while it might be simple, it’s one of those pieces that could very well stick around for a decade (or longer) if you give it the right care. Talon zips throughout, and a slightly slim fit. [via hypebeast]

A shapely spring jacket in black? Certainly there’s room in your closet for one of these, especially since it’s one that you’ll be funneling into your ensembles for seasons to come. The cotton construction of this jacket allows for longtime wearing through summer nights, and a tailored shape isn’t going to make you look boxy and/or chunky. A must-have in s-m-l-xl. [$396 at tobi]

Cinch that jacket up and give yourself a fresh figure. This Endovanera choice has high-fashion details like distinctive venting and trimmed-down touches. If you think you couldn’t possibly stomach another coat this season, keep in mind that this one isn’t just an investment piece, but a timely purchase that incorporates a high percentage of cotton to keep things lightweight through spring. Available at revolve in sizes S-XL. [$440 at revolve]

It’s amazing what a basic blazer can do when it’s shapely and smart, don’t you think? This selection from Marc by Marc Jacobs, available at ssense, has a slim fit in an almost boy-type shape, and you’ll get tons of those “cute and hip” style points just for that. A single back vent and a skinny notched collar are expected, but a star-patterned lining is not. 100% cotton shell in sizes s-m-l-xl. [$378 at ssense]

Glossy, crinkly red luxe from Joyrich is a perfect hoodie selection: it might be traditional in shape, but the fabric and design details are far from it. Statement red communes with a long front zip, zip front pockets and one zip coin purse, and a contrasting black-lined hood. While it’s probably best to avoid wearing any more fire engine red to keep this one standing out, the rest is up to you. Surprisingly versatile; 100% poly. [$132 at revolve]

Waterproof fabric is disguised by Diesel design details that make a piece stand out: you might be protected from the rain, but you’ll also be shielded from style spies and critics. This modern piece makes the most of what it’s got, from a bold zip closure to a slouchy hood. Three pockets, 100% nylon, and pretty rough-and-tumble for the concrete jungle. Get it from Diesel up to XXL. [$290 at diesel]
