Willard S Folsom is among the few whiskey connoisseurs that not only had a passion for the intoxicating liquor but also had a monster private collection to brag about. In his pursuit to find rare single malt scotches, Folsom has spent the last 20 years of his life traveling most of the whisky distilleries from all over the UK with his wife and children. His large collection, which now consists of over 3,000 bottles of old and rare malts, will go under the hammer on November 18 at Bonhams Edinburgh. Considering that many of the bottles will never be released again, Folsom’s private collection sounds like an exciting thing to own. [via Luxist]

Distiller William Grant & Sons have just unveiled one of its rarest and most exclusive single malt bottles of whisky to a very elite audience of Scottish whisky enthusiasts. Intended for large pockets and refined palates, the Glenfiddich 50 Year Old Single Malt Whisky is a rare and precious “piece of art” that carries the brand’s heritage. With only 50 bottles to be produced over the next 10 years, at £10,000/€11,000/US$15,000 the Glenfiddich 50 Year Old Single Malt Whisky has already seen great interest among collectors and whisky aficionados. As long as they wouldn’t mind spending a small fortune for such a treat. [via BornRich]

Publisher Kraken Opus is working on a limited edition $1 million wine book for the wealthy wine connoisseur. Dubbed the Wine Opus, the 30kg book showcases the world’s top 100 wineries on over 850 pages and is scheduled to be published in 2010. But except from costing a whopping $1 million, the book also packs a six-bottle case of wine from each of the listed wineries. And if our math is correct that’s a scorching wine collection of 600 bottles of wine that will adorn your cellar. Definitely a “one of a kind”, only 100 books will ever see the print, with 25 already pre-ordered. [via Luxuo]

The folks from Art in the Age decided to turn back the clock and recreate the Root Tea liqueur, based on an early (1700s) Native American dormant recipe. A classic with a rich heritage, Root is deliciously smooth and very aromatic to the palate. Unlike anything else you have ever tasted, the 100% organic spirit is made from wild roots and herbs, with very strong notes of anise, birch, vanilla, citrus and pepper. Perfect as is, with an ice cube in a chilled glass or used as the backbone for a great cocktail, Root is expected to hit Philadelphia liquor stores this week. [aita via selectism]

Bacon Flavored Vodka – Let’s hope that holiday hangover has subsided, because the second you see this you might just lose your breakfast (especially if you ate bacon). An entertprising Seattle-based distillery has created a new product called Bakon Vodka that, you guessed it, is flavored with bacon. While we agree with the maxim that “bacon makes everything taste better”, we think this is one bacon-infused item that we’ll gladly avoid. What do you think, dear reader? Is Bakon Vodka a hit? Or will you too be fighting back the urge to gag… [bakonvodka]
