The LED phenomenon is taking both the conventional lighting world and the design industry for one hell of a ride. Philips has added an efficient and de-lightful option to their exciting new range that uses the radical new Master LED Technology. Dubbed the E27 bulb lamp (pictured above), it saves some 80% of energy compared to the traditional bulbs, lasts 10 times longer (45,000 hrs average liftetime), features instant start technology and includes no mercury (unlike compact flourescents).  We salute the design team behind this wildly attractive bulb, a commonplace part of our world that we rarely look upon in appreciation. The latest creation from Korean designer Wonsik Chae manages to create the perfect amalgamation of lighting and fluidity.  Dubbed the lighting bags, they resemble any standard, drop in-tea bags you use at home.  The difference is that these aren’t meant for drinking– drop them into a glass of fluid and they instantly burst into a soft, glowing light.  As the chemicals begin to receed, the light will fade but the magic show will definitely remain etched in your thoughts. No word on when these will be released stateside, but we have a feeling they’ll hit a snag with the FDA.  We’d hate for some poor sap to accidentally down a pint of glow, wouldn’t we? [via Yanko]

A light with bright design, Horne’s Birds + Bees Table Light is transparent, functional sculpture. The subtly detailed lamp is hand-blown by Brooklyn, NY artist Lindsey Adleman and outfitted with a pair of old-school, 60-watt, double loop Edison lightbulbs that terminate into cloth-covered cords. Young French industrial designer Julien Bergignat has a special talent for mixing technology with modern style. After the Tima Watch we covered some time ago, here’s a new concept of a daring, stylish lamp. Clad in stainless steel and aluminum with a black finish, the “Lamp” is a brilliant concept defined by portability. Detachable from its base, the lamp looks like a modern torch that runs on lithium-ion batteries and gives off a sleek orange light. We’ll take one, please.  [via IndustrialDesignServed]

Though the concept may strike you as a bit weird, the folks from Sture Pallarp have found an ingenious way of recycling X-Ray films into lamps. Lungs, bones or whatever was put on film in the emergency room– have been refashioned into a set of brilliant (get it?) lighting devices. And for a more personal touch, you are given the option of providing the actual X- rays… *shivers* [via DesignZen]

The phrase “inspired by nature” is not uncommon amongst designers– some of history’s best have found their inspiration in what nature has perfected over millions of years. Same goes for designer Janne Kyttänen who followed the perfect symmetry of flower petals to come up with this amazing lighting solution. It’s a sconce dubbed Dahlia that not only looks absolutely amazing when all lit up, but also brings out the beauty of the room it adorns, adding balance and proportion to life. Sparkling as they fill a room with golden light, the new Caboche lighting fixtures from Foscarini are an exquisite mix of style and utility. Designed by Patricia Urquiola and Eliana Gerotto, the golden Caboche Grande Chandelier creates an atmosphere of warm light for any contemporary environment.  Though it its quite a charming centerpiece on its own, the $3,000 price is a small obstacle from having it hanging from most cielings.  [via HDF]

Designed by Sehwan Oh, the Peel Off Light lamp allows you to customize the design and control its illumination by peeling off its layers. That way you can come up with patterns, various shades and schemes that match your home really well. We’re impressed by the concept, solely do to the level of personalization it promises.  It is likely that, after you’ve peeled yours to the desired design, no one else in the world will have done their own the same.  We wonder if we can switch between colors as well with equal ease.
