Why does that Mustang appear to completely rip off the World War II fighter’s style? Because it’s the Mustang AV-X10 ‘Dearborn Doll’, a one-off Mustang that Ford designed to be auctioned at the Experimental Aircraft Associaton’s Gathering of Eagles charity auction. Ford didn’t just put a new paint scheme on a standard Mustang, however; the AV-X10 features a 4.6L V-8 modified with Ford Racing Performance Parts 550-horsepower supercharger kit, FR500S exhaust and FRPP’s Handling Pack, in addition to tweaks to the body and interior. Last year’s AV8R brought in $500K at the auction and, despite the poor economic climate, this one looks like it should fetch a similar sum. [via AutoBlog] Continue Reading

German auto magazine Autobild has thrown a sizeable gallery of pictures of the upcoming Saab 9-5 sedan up on the Web and we’ve got some of the best shots. The 9-5 redesign has stirred up much interest in the car world since the four-door hasn’t gone under the knife since it first debuted back in ’98. Taking some styling from the Saab Aero X concept and from Saabs of years past, the 9-5 pulls the past and future into the present, delivering a marked step-up on the visual scale from the current 9-5. The interior adds plenty of subtle luxury with leather and gloss black touches throughout. Get to know the new Saab 9-5 a little better in the gallery below and wait for Saab to fill in the details when it officially “unveils” it in September. [via Jalopnik] Continue Reading

The Corvette-based SV Motor Company SV 9 Competizione puts a distinctly Italian polish on the embodiment of American muscle. Beginning with a mesh grill that exclaims Ferrari far louder than Chevy, the carbon fiber body is designed to allow air to pass around and through its surfaces while cutting weight by 132 pounds from the Corvette C6 that it was modeled from. Moving to the rear, Corvette’s calling-card dual circle headlights have been cut to one per side in a redesign that seems to shave more style than it adds. Love or hate the Italian-inspired exterior, it’s difficult to argue with 450 hp and 445 lb/ft under the hood. Adding a personal touch, buyers choose from 25 different colors, four different wheel choices and a variety of interior trims and accents. 1000 SV9 Cs will be available for a purchase price of $99,995. Corvette purists will certainly balk at the faux-Italian redesign, but you can decide for yourself if it’s a hit or miss. [Corvette Blogger via Jalopnik] Continue Reading

This fine piece of tuning is the INDEN Ferrari F430. INDEN Design began with the requisite power-boosting alterations, adding a stainless steel sport exhaust with adjustable damper, Kat replacement tubes and modified ECU. The F430 wasn’t exactly begging for extra horsepower, but the additional 35 hp enabled by the mods can only help. Of course, unseen muscle is only the start; INDEN modified the body kit with a new front spoiler, side flaps, carbon fiber rear diffuser, rear valence and 20-inch rims. Inside, carbon fiber and leather trim accent the already near-flawless interior. [via Fly Lyf] Continue Reading

In a design that could effortlessly rise to the ranks of the top handful of BMW’s most dashing vehicles to date, designer Iulian Bumbo presents the BMW S.X. concept. Bumbo, who previously graced us with the Lamborghini Insecta design, has injected pure sex and muscle into this 6-series-inspired sports coupe. Aiming (and clearly succeeding) to take the 6-series to the next level, Bumbo has widened and lowered the body while concentrating on creating smooth, uninterrupted lines that the eye wishes would never end. No indication as to what Bumbo envisions under the hood, but take another look, close your eyes and you should be able to hear the deep, throaty rumble that would surely saturate the interior the minute you turned the ignition. Audi has officially released details on the 2010 A5 Sportback, its upcoming five-door sport hatch. Described quite poignantly as combining “the emotion and elegance of a coupe, the comfort of a sedan and the practicality of a station wagon”, the Sportback joins A5 siblings the Coupe and Cabriolet. Audi boasts that the A5 features a lower, sportier profile than the A4 sedan while still maintaining generous interior space that provides plenty of room for passengers and storage. Six different fuel-injected engines will be available to buyers, three gas and three diesel. The top engines will power quattro all-wheel drive and three drivetrain variations will be available depending on engine: manual, multi-tronic or seven speed S tronic. Three more engine choices will be added in 2010. Unfortunately, none of it will be available outside of Europe. [via Auto Blog] Continue Reading

Peugeot hasn’t sold cars in the US since 1991, so it’s safe to say that news of a new Peugeot won’t be pulling our US readers out of their seats in anticipation. However, the RCZ is sweet enough that it warrants a post regardless of the fact that it won’t be seen on I-95 North anytime soon. The Peugeot RCZ is a sleekly-redesigned two-door expected to tightly compete with the Audi TT. It will be fully unveiled at the Frankfort Motor Show; however, the French carmaker provides an early taste of what to expect with these newly-released photos. In truly cryptic, overdramatic French style, they’ve described the new addition to their line with but one word: “Emotion”. Maybe it’s a good thing they don’t sell cars in the US anymore.
