In what was a glorious day for both the British Monarchy and lovers of high fashion, Prince William and Kate Middleton exchanged vows Friday. The young couple wed at Westminster Abbey in London as people tuned in from around the world to witness a deluge of royal splendor.
Anytime you gather members of the royal family, celebrities and other notable folks for a lavish wedding ceremony you are guaranteed a wealth of intriguing style and exciting fashions to enjoy. William and Kate’s delightful wedding was no exception. And who knew there would be so many fabulous hats!
Amidst the spectacle of the Royal Wedding, Middleton’s wedding dress played a leading role. Looking quite elegant and beautiful as she stepped out of the queen’s 1977 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI in front of London’s Westminster Abbey on Friday morning, Middleton unveiled to the world a lovely wedding dress by Alexander McQueen Creative Director Sarah Burton.
Prince William was also looking rather sharp on his big day. The future King of England was dressed in full uniform – a striking scarlet tunic of the Irish Guard. His brother, Prince Harry, sported the Blues and Royals officer’s uniform in Dismounted Review Order.
Among the 1,900 guests to witness Prince William and Kate Middleton say ‘I Do,’ were David and Victoria Beckham, Sir Elton John, Joss Stone, Olympic swimmer Ian Thorpe, director Guy Ritchie and Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean!). Prince Henry’s on-again-off-again girlfriend Chelsea Davy was in attendance, as was Lady Kitty Spencer, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, Autumn Kelly and Zara Phillips.
And let’s pause for a moment and put down our Kate poster to celebrate how good Pippa Middleton, the bride’s younger sister, who served as maid of honor, was looking on her big sis’ special day.
So let us toast William and Kate, now also to be known as the Duke of Cambridge and Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge, on their special day — and all the elegant style and kooky hats that went along with it!
