Alexander Wang To Debut First Menswear Collection For Fall 2011By Jeffrey Hyatt
Alexander Wang, recently named Best New Menswear Designer by GQ, has announced he’ll be launching his firs ready-to-wear menswear collection for Fall 2011. The much-anticipated 14-piece collection will include tracksuit pants, leather shorts and leather-trimmed coats.
According to Style.com, the smallish collection, which follows up on Wang’s more casual T collection, will be available at Wang’s own shop and Barneys New York, and at stores including Dover Street Market, Colette, and Joyce internationally. Prices begin where T leaves off, ranging from $375 to $2,150.
“It’s about the right timing, the right opportunity, then one thing leads to another,” Wang said about his first men’s collection.
Besides the Best New Menswear Designer from GQ, Wang also recently snared the CFDA Award for Best New Menswear Designer for pieces in his very popular T by Wang basics collection.
“It started with a lot utilitarian references, something that I’ve always felt a close attraction to,” Wang said. “And the idea of mixing—I’ve always liked to take something very dressy and bring it down, [take] something very, very casual and elevate it.”
He added that men’s accessories will be added for his second collection, in Spring ‘12. [via Style.com]
