Balmain’s Fall/Winter 2011-12 looks are highly layered for the next cold snap. Even though the combinations represented seem complex due to styling, looking at each piece by itself shows a lot of potential for wardrobe connections beyond what’s displayed here. In others words, you’ll get plenty of mileage out of your chosen garments and will be able to find lots of ways to mix and match as you see fit.

Fashionisto commented on the collection, saying “From scarves and button-downs to plain tees or denim, the Balmain man tones it down for the fall season, but comes out on top with rich outerwear, ranging from the peacoat to the duffel.” While the strong military elements caught our attention, some of the most successful and fluid pieces include a shearling coat with an exaggerated silhouette, fur-trimmed jackets with a lot of great pockets, and well-cut blazers worn with blend-right-in black trousers. Pieces are well executed whether they are simple or on the busy side, all match with plain pants in your closet, and you can pull out any boots to finish the job. Plus a scarf. Balmain looks great with a scarf, so make sure you have one. [via selectism]
