Mercedes has announced their new Mercedes ESF S400 Hybrid Concept 2009 — an Experimental Safety Vehicle meant for ultimate road safety. Based on the upcoming S400 Hybrid and hailed as the world’s safest Mercedes-Benz S-class, the new ESF features some of the most innovative technologies these days. It has an inflatable metal structure for crash protection, an auxiliary emergency braking system built into the floor, airbags installed inside the seatbelts and reflective tires for better grip.
But that’s not all. The new Merc is smart enough to “smell” an imminent collision, hence why it raises 80mm to compensate the dive, inflates the brake bag to cause friction with the road and moves the passengers towards the center to avoid injuries. And that’s what the new Mercedes vehicles could boast in the years ahead. [via WCF]
