Many motorsport purists think that an electric vehicle may not be fit for the Le Mans race, but the Swiss designers from GreenGT would like to change that. GreenGT is a design study for an electric racer that is aiming to take part in the 24-hour Le Mans race in 2011. Based on a FIA-spec carbon chassis with a fiberglass body, the GreenGT features 2 water-cooled 100 kW electric motors that have been mated to a patented differential gearbox. With power coming from flexcell photovoltaic solar panels and two 30kW lithium-ion batteries, this electric supercar outputs between 350 and 400 hp and a whopping 2,000 Nm of torque. That electric muscle pushes the GreenGT to 62mph in under 4 seconds on its way to a max speed of 171 mph.  Wow. [via Autoblog]
