Tesla Model S Revealed

The Tesla Model S has been officially revealed by Tesla to the public today. The seven seat Tesla Model S Sedan is slated for a late 2011 release for just $49,900 (including the federal green vehicle tax credit). The electric Model S will feature a 300-mile range per charge, with a swappable battery that charges in under 45 minutes. This battery and the Tesla’s drivetrain will push the Tesla Model S to 60mph in just 5.5 seconds, giving it a speedy edge to compete with many internal combustion cars on the road today. Tesla is planning to build 20,000 Model S Sedans per year starting in the 3rd quarter of 2011. Needless to say, this is great news for the boutique electric car manufacturer, and could provide a sticky thorn in the side to an already faltering General Motors… [via jalopnik]
