Classic Photography in Lego: the Art of Mike Stimpson
By Mike Payne
Photographer and artist Mike Stimpson has a sense of humor when it comes to the images that have shaped our world. While history’s greatest photographs have represented some of the highest peaks and the lowest failures of humanity, Stimpson represents them with a child-like sense of humor. He rebuilds them with Legos. Dubbed the “Classics in Lego” collection, Mike Stimpson has shared a playful, new perspective on photography’s best, from politics to war to sports and the achievements of humanity. Kudos to Mike Stimpson, enjoy the photography, readers! [mike stimpson, more pics at flickr]

Fantastic, although it seems a little disturbing how the lego men/women are always smiling during some terrible situations.

Those tanks are definitely of Imperial make.

This is pretty good. I remember someone getting into a lot of trouble a few years back when they converted scenes from the Holocaust into Lego, too.
Braden, I agree. It sure is disturbing how mini-figs CONSTANTLY smile.

The Tiananmen Square picture is AWESOME. I am teacher at a university in central China and I would love to take that to my classes and show it to my students except I can pretty much guarantee that it would get me kicked out of the country!

Aha, the hand of god! (To all those that don't know, this is Maradonna hand balling past Shilts that cost us a place in the world cup final). Nice to see it make an entry alongside Tianamen! Love the little briedcase in the bottom picture, you could do some great stuff here!

Fantastic, i have to agree with the above comment, The vietnam one is my fav but would love to know how you managed to get the lego Maradona in the air, trial & error or did you photoshop it in place?

Oh what a great idea – going to pass this over to my son who is currently into lego stop motion animation
I may be able to make a photographer of him yet

How did Maradona get to jump 4 foot and yet Shilton is only 1 foot above the ground, surely it should have been the other way around!

I love this idea – especially with the shallow DOF given by shooting small objects close up – great stuff

Ok, please can someone tell me which is the real photograph of the man on the moon, they both look like lego men! Ahh, I know, the bottom one is the real picture because there's no wind on the moon and that thing in his hand is flapping around on the top image – lol!
