neal6 Oregon Getaway Raises Earthy Architecture Awareness

The Oregon landscape barely notices this modern, but modest vacation retreat. The rural Neal Creek Reisidence, situated near Hood River, was built with a minimal impact and serves its owners — both windsurfing and snowboarding enthusiasts — as an efficient and earth-friendly retreat that rises to float among the treetops. Designed by architect Paul McKean, the raised home avoids both flooding and brushfires and provides shelter for a large outdoor patio and gear storage. The roof has also been designed for future planting and seeding, which will restore the landscape area lost to the home’s footprint. [via contemporist]

Vacation retreat? Give me a Internet access and I could make this my permanent address and jetison to the city only for meetings and partying. I would nice if they could share the cost to build these houses.

Hi there. This is Paul. I am sitting in the home as I type. It cost $175k to build. I am working with a local modular builder to offer the home as a pre fab product. Thanks for the nice comment.
