Sea Sustainable Living: Enviro-Engineered Island
Monday, February 2, 2009 1:00PM - By Joe Wertz

With a backdrop of manmade mountains and engineered eco-niches, a Caspian Sea island proposal channels water and heat and tapes natural energy for a carbon neutral community in the bay of Baku, capital of Azerbaijan. Co-designed by Danish architects at Big and engineers at Ramboll, the proposed Zira Island will mimic nearby landscapes and provide high-end living with minimal energy expenditure. Wind turbines, roof-integrated solar panels and heat pumps generate energy and warm water recycled from storm water. [via archdaily]
