Drift Bay House: a Contemporary Retreat by the Sea
By Alex Ion
Located on a sloping landscape near Lake Wakatipu, in Queenstown, New Zealand, Drift Bay House was designed by architects Bronwen Kerr and Peter Ritchie to suit the untamed environment and their family’s needs. Primarily clad in black steel and softer timber boards, the 280sqm double level house has courtyards that protect against the prevailing wind and summer sun, a conservative interior (there’s a fireplace, too), amazing lighting that makes it glow at night and offers breathtaking sights of the lake and nearby rocky mountains. Must be great to recharge your batteries for a few days in such a place. [via Contemporist]
