Set to be completed in 2010, Mexico will chip away at its skyscraper deficit in style. The idea behind constructing the largest building in Latin America is to celebrate the bicentennial anniversary of its independence from Spain and also to symbolize the economic prosperity and cultural flourishing to be seen in the new millennium. The Torre Bicentenario is architecturally stunning, with two pyramids stacked on top of each other. According to OMA, the firm who won the bid to build it, it has created a structure that is “simultaneously familiar and unexpected, historic yet visionary.” [OMA]
